Hurricane Season

Where were we this month?

We had some friends over to visit from UK. Fortunately, it was earlier in the month before we got inundated with rain!

They had previously visited with their children, but this was their first time without the kids. We decided to try something different as theme parks weren’t on the agenda this time round.

We had been given a recommendation to try a state park up in North West Georgia, so we booked a cabin deep in the woods in Canyonland State Park, just shy of the Tennessee border. As well as doing some walking in the mountains in the park, we also visited Chattanooga and Nashville, and took a detour on the way home to stop over one night in Panama City Beach. Quite a road trip in the end.

The latter half of May was a challenge due to the weather – we were working 6 days a week to try and keep up with our mowing schedule in between the thunderstorms. We did manage to fit a few extra landscaping projects in too.

One customer, who has no grass at all, wanted to refresh some areas with new mulch, but where mulch had previously washed out down the sides of the property, they wanted stone instead, with edgings installed keep them in place. Due to the restricted access this meant we had to manhandle 5 tons of bagged stone. The hard work was worth it though, as they were very pleased with the results.

2018 Hurricane Season Expected to Be More Active Than Usual

After last year's disastrous hurricane season that included storms like Harvey, Irma and Maria, the U.S. probably won't see much of a hurricane reprieve this year, according to forecasters from the Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project.
